YOU ARE HERE: HOME --> CLASSROOMS --> MRS. YEE --> SUGGESTIONS FOR A PLEASANT SCHOOL DAY AND A REWARDING SCHOOL YEAR

BoySuggestions for a Pleasant School Day and a Rewarding School YearGirl

1. Be sure your child has had a good night of sleep. Set a regular bedtime on school nights.

2. Be sure your child has had breakfast. Provide a light, nutritious snack for the 9:15 a.m. recess. Be sure your child has a bag lunch or is getting a hot lunch at school.

3. Arrive to school on time. Pick up your child on time.

4. Have your child bring a backpack or bag to carry home important school papers and projects.

5. Have your child do the homework and hand it in on time on Fridays. Provide a work space or area with a tray of supplies (pencils, crayons, glue, scissors,) at home so that your child may study and develop good study habits.

6. Read to your child each night and have your child read to you.

7. Label lunch boxes, backpacks, clothing, etc. with your child's name. Put lunch money in a sealed envelope with your child's name on it.

8. Do not allow your child to bring toys or valuables to school.

9. Please be supportive of your child's teachers.

10. Talk to your child about what he/she did at school today. Ask questions. Give praise.

11. Remind your child to keep his/her hands to him/herself.

12. Discuss with your child the importance of respecting other children as well as the teachers.

13. Read and go over all papers that are sent home.

14. Remember that first grade is very different from kindergarten. Help your child remember to listen when the teacher is talking and to follow directions.

15. Participate in P.T.O. which holds numerous activities and meetings throughout the school year.

Your child's success in first grade depends on you. Together, our efforts can make a difference in the growth and development of your child.
