Ms. Wiley

Ms. Wiley – 4th Grade
2009 – 2010

Dear Parents, Ms. Wiley

Thank you for taking time to learn about our classroom environment.  The following is an overview of what you can expect for/from your child and his/her teacher this year.

Curriculum:

Language Arts              Math          Social Studies                Science

Music                                       Art              PE

*Please see the curriculum standards handout for detailed information about the California State mandated fourth grade standards that are expected to be covered in the core content areas.  Due to the vast amount of information the students are required to learn, it is very important that they come to   school everyday on time (unless seriously ill) and that they are well behaved in class.

Class Rules:

1.     Respect yourself and others at all times.

2.     Raise your hand and wait to be called on.

3.     Stay on task.

4.     Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

5.     Smile!

Behavior Management Protocols:

1.     Behavior Calendar

a.     Students will receive a verbal warning to stop any certain behavior.  If he/she continues to misbehave, their card will be turned to yellow.  This indicates that they really need to stop doing what they shouldn’t be doing before a consequence is given. If a student continues the behavior, his/her card will be turned again to orange.  When their card is on orange, they will lose the next recess.  If a student continues to misbehave, their card will be turned again to red, thus receiving a more severe consequence and a phone call home.  If a student continues to receive orange and red cards on a regular behavior, the student will be sent to the principal.  If necessary, a meeting will be requested with the parent to discuss the student’s behavior.  Depending on the nature of the behavior, a student can go right to orange or red on a first offense.  I also reserve the right to amend consequences especially when a student continues to exhibit wrong behavior day after day.

The behavior calendar is sent home every Friday for a parent to review, sign (on the Saturday square), and return with child on Monday.  This is an opportunity for you to have immediate feedback of what your child’s behavior was like during the week.  Please ask for it on Friday so you can plan their weekend accordingly! J

**Students with a pattern of misbehaving or not completing assignments will not be invited to attend field trips.

2.     Marble Jar

a.     The class as a whole can earn a class reward when they fill up the marble jar.  The class is awarded marbles when they line up properly, are quiet at the appropriate times, are working on-task when designated, etc.

Homework Policy:

Students are expected to complete their assigned homework the evening it was given and return the next day. Students who fail to complete assigned homework will lose recess and work on the incomplete assignment at that time.  Please make time at home for students to do their homework in the afternoon.  It is extra practice for concepts learned in class that will help them understand the material better and do well on assessments.

Attendance:

Please be sure to send your child to school on time EVERYDAY unless he/she is extremely ill.  Students miss a lot of learning when they are absent and it is very difficult to make this learning up.  Please try to schedule appointments after school so that your child does not have to miss school.  If you have to schedule an appointment during the day, please try to schedule it early in the morning and bring your student in after the appointment.

Grading Scale:
