Portable C School Procedures and RoutinesEntering the Classroom Except for the first two weeks of school, the classroom will be open before 8:00 a.m. If the classroom is not open, it probably means that there will be a guest teacher that day. If that is the case, please line up in front of our classroom door based on your personal number. Enter "Q & Q" quickly and quietly. Place your lunch count. Always walk in the room. Put your belongings away quickly. Sharpen your pencil, if you are in the classroom before 8:10. When school starts, you need to be prepared and on task. Start you Bell work assignment, which will be posted on the board everyday. Bell work is an opening language arts assignment to do as soon as school begins. Begin working - independently and silently. The First Two Weeks of School We will be meeting as a whole school. The Principal will have all McKinley Scholars say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, we will review expected school wide behaviors, and hear a few words of encouragement for our academic day. We will first, line up in front of our classroom in our number order, and when the Principal is ready for our attention, we will turn around and stay in our line. After the assembly, we will enter the classroom, quickly, quietly, and calmly. Bell Work Follow directions for daily bell work posted on the left hand side of the white board. Work quietly and independently. Once daily bell work is completed, you may move onto penmanship/cursive. Daily Schedule The schedule/agenda will be posted on the white board daily. When it is Time to Give the Teacher Attention The teacher will raise her hand for a silent signal. The teacher will begin a count - from 5 to 1. 1 Eyes on speaker 2 Quiet 3 Be still 4 Hands free 5 Listen carefully The teacher may also utilize a clapping sequence or the train whistle to get scholars attention. When We Have Classroom Visitors We will have numerous visitors throughout the school year. They will be walking through our classroom to observe scholars at work and our classroom environment. Speak only when spoken to, they will not be here to disturb your work time but to observe you and I working towards mastering 3rd grade standards. Please simply, continue with your work. Taking Roll and Attendance Place your lunch count on the flowers on top of the cubbies (bringing, buying). Mrs. Mrak will count order of school lunches for Portable C scholars during morning bell work. A student will place absent folders on the absent students desks (which is used to collect missed work throughout the day.) When You Are Tardy You are considered tardy if you enter the classroom after the 8:10 bell. When you enter the room, use the pen provided and write your name on the tardy log next to the door. When You Are Absent The class work that you miss will be in the Absent Folder on your desk when you return. It is your responsibility to take it home, complete the work, and return it to school. Lining Up to Go to Lunch, Assemblies, Music, Physical Education, and Art Classes Push your chair in as you are being excused. Line up in number order. We will usually line up in number order, but not always - for example when we line up for picture, we go by tallest to shortest. When lining up and walking to classes: Keep hand and feet to yourself. Stand quietly facing forwards. Leave a small space between yourself and the scholar in front of you. Walk quickly; at a slow and steady pace, and quietly in your place in line. No talking and quiet feet - as we do not want to disturb other scholars learning time. Going to the Office Always take the office pass and a note to explain why you are there. When going to the office, walk quietly and calmly - directly to the office. Leaving the Classroom/Bathroom Breaks If you are leaving the classroom because you are going to another class, get up quietly from your chair, push in your chair, and walk out of the room quietly and calmly, without disrupting other students learning. If you are leaving to use the bathroom or to get a drink of water, you must have received permission from the teacher without disrupting the class. You must sign on the in/out log and take a pass. You may take four breaks each month without a cost, all breaks beyond these four will cost and be deducted from your bonus points total. The only time you are allowed to leave the room is during independent work time. You may only use the outside bathrooms, not eh bathrooms in the main building. You should remember to use the bathroom and get drinks of water during recess and lunch. If you suddenly become ill, let the teacher know and if you need to go the bathroom, go immediately. If you are gone for more than a few minutes someone will come to check on you. If the teacher leaves the room to check on a student, you must continue to work quietly and independently. What to Do When You Finish Your Work Review your work before your turn it in. Work on an incomplete assignment in your "Work in Progress" folder. Read a book of your choice in peace. Write the date out completely, unless asked to do it in another way (August 30, 2007). Write the subject under the date.
