Dear Third Grade Families of Portable C,
Welcome to McKinley Elementary School and to Portable C. My name is Mrs. Mrak and I will be your scholar's teacher this year. This is my fifth year at McKinley and I am looking forward to getting acquainted with you and your scholar.
The third grade is an important time in a child's life. One key to ensuring success for your child this year is open communication between you as a parent and me as a teacher. I firmly believe that the education of your child is a team effort consisting of cooperation and communication between the child, parents, teachers, and the school staff. I want to assure you that the staff and I will make every effort to provide a constructive learning environment for your scholar.
During the first few weeks, I will be discussing classroom procedures, homework, grading, classroom rules and consequences for Portable C. During this time I will also be introducing the curriculum which we will be mastering during the year.
I would like to assure you that I will do my very best to maintain an orderly classroom and create a positive environment that encourages and facilitate learning. I will also be encouraging the children to practice personal responsibility and making good choices. I want to include you in the process and let you know the 5 rules and consequences for McKinley Elementary and Portable C, so you can discuss them at home also.

WE ALWAYS FOLLOW SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM RULES
Consequences for scholars who
choose not to follow the rules.
First time: A warning
Second time: Five minute time out
Third time: Ten minute time out
Fourth time: Parent phone call; up to one hour of in-school suspension
in a buddy classroom
Fifth time: Referral to the principal
Again, I welcome your active participation in your scholars education. If you have any questions or concerns about the third grade program or your child's progress, please call the school office at 510-667-3582 and leave a message for me. I will respond as soon as possible. I look forward to working with you and your child this school year.
