Dear Parents,
Welcome to Music at McKinley School! My name is Mrs. Maier. My favorite thing in the world is teaching music. At McKinley School, we are very proud of our vocal and instrumental music programs. First through fifth grade students at McKinley study classroom music once per week for 45 minutes. Our current focus involves singing a variety of songs and discussing the musical terminology (i.e. beat, rhythm, melody, accompaniment, D.C. al fine, verse and refrain). Another of our standards involves folk dancing. We learn a variety of dances around the globe and perform at a schoolwide assembly in June. All fifth graders take part in our instrumental music program featuring violin, viola, cello, string bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and baritone horn. We also offer a String Club for fourth graders which meets during lunch once a week. We have a wonderful Choir Club of third, fourth, and fifth graders. It rehearses during lunch recess one day per week. All these groups perform numerous times throughout the school year at school and in the community. We look forward to another successful year in Music Education at McKinley!
