Welcome to the fifth grade!!!

The coming year will be one of the most challenging, fun and engaging years of your child's life. This pamphlet contains much of the important information for the year. Please read and discuss it with your child, as well as keep a copy handy at all times (on the fridge, in a drawer).

School Rules

- We use polite and kind words.

- We don't bully, tease, or use put-downs.

- We keep our hands, feet, and other objects to ourselves.

- We arrive on time with positive attitudes and materials.

-We stand and walk in straight quiet lines with our hands by our sides.

Classroom Expectations

- Have respect for the speaker

- Stay on task

- Follow directions the first time they are given

- Stay in seat unless given permission.

Consequence:

1st offense: You will be given a warning.

2nd offence: Move to a quiet cool down chair.

3rd offence: Serve Wall Slip and fill in consequence sheet.

4th offence: Buddy Class or Office Referral, parents contacted.

Other Consequences include missing class trips or rewards, assisting with cleaning of school.

Rewards:

Rewards and the way students earn them will vary throughout the year based on what we are studying. They can include team prizes, extra recess, partner reads during SSR, movie time, lunch with Mr. G, trips to the gift box, etc.

Students will also receive awards during grade level and school assemblies for demonstrating our life skills and having great attendance.

Supplies

Your child will need the following supplies to begin this year:

1.5-2 inch binder

pencil pouch or case

9 binder dividers

4 packets of sticky notes

100 5x8 index cards

wide ruled line paper

3 pack of mini dry erase markers

(expo if possible)

1 box of tissues for the class

A Dictionary for home

$4.50 for Times for Kids

Reminder: It is your child's responsibility to come to school each day with enough pencils and paper. These need to be replenished periodically when they are beginning to run low. It is your child's responsibility to monitor this and arrange a way with you to purchase these materials.

Please do not send your child with scissor, pens, sharpies. These will be supplied by the teacher and if they are brought they may be taken.

Homework

Students will receive homework 5 nights a week. In addition to their nightly homework they are expected to read for at least 30 minutes every night. This reading can be silent, out loud to you or to a younger or older sibling.

Please help with this reading. Discuss what your child has read, and work together to check on understanding!

Students who do not bring in homework will be expected to make it up during their recess or lunch time.

Students can earn Weekly Honor Roll for perfect homework records.

Honor role students will be rewarded with certificates each week.

In addition students can earn rewards for reaching specific numbers of weeks on the honor role, including WOLF pencils, rulers and possibly our own P.A.C.K. t-shirt.

Clothing

School is a place where we should feel comfortable and relaxed. However, it is also a place where we take ourselves and others seriously as learners. Our clothing at school should reflect this.

Children should not wear hats, bandanas or other head gear to school. If a hat is brought to school to be worn on the playground, it must be off in doors.

In addition children should wear appropriate clothing. Ladies should not wear halter tops or cut offs, and all shorts should be at an appropriate length. Gentlemen should wear t-shirts (not mesh uniforms) with appropriate messages only. Pants should be worn at the waste.

Thanks for your support!
