PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Dear McKinley Family,

Our Open House was a huge success! It was fantastic to have so many parents and guardians come to see all the wonderful things the students have been learning this year. Mrs. Maier and Mr. Wright and their music students played beautifully for the final concert of the year. Thank you for all the hard work by music teachers, students, and parents, for helping our students be successful musicians.

Exciting things are happening at our campus over the summer in preparation for the 2008-2009 school year! Majority of restroom facilities at McKinley date back to their original construction, and thanks to San Leandro voters and Measure B, all restrooms will be renovated. In order to not disrupt learning, work will begin immediately after school lets out, and targeted for completion when the school doors open again in the fall. The large restrooms, including the boys' and girls' restrooms in the main building and the playground restrooms will be fully renovated. Some fixtures in the playground restrooms will be removed in order to make them American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant. Work will include:

New epoxy flooring
Interior painting
New fixtures
New partitions at all restrooms except boys' restroom in main building
New tile walls to a height of 6'0"
New replacement of windows in playground restrooms
New ball screens to prevent window breakage

New fluorescent lighting (except main building boys' and girls' restrooms)
New fans

The smaller restrooms, such as the Kinder restroom, nurse's office and multi use restrooms will receive:
New flooring
New fixtures
New paint
New lighting with operational fans (if not currently working)

The staff restroom in the lounge has been modernized recently, but will be newly painted.

McKinley is a beautiful school and these restroom renovations will greatly enhance our environment. Again, thank you San Leandro voters for passing Measure B!

Registration of upper grade students for the 2008/2009 school year will begin on May 5, 2008.
The State of California requires that all students entering first grade have a physical exam. Your child must have written proof that they have had an exam within 18 months prior to entering first grade (dated 3/07 or later). Students who do not have this document on file WILL NOT be placed on a 1st grade class list for the 2008-09 school year. Thank you.

REMINDER OF AFTERSCHOOL POLICIES
Please make sure your child knows his/her after school arrangements before your child leaves for school in the morning. It is important to have a plan, and also a back up plan. It is often impossible to contact students during the school day, and when students know what to expect after school, it avoids much confusion. If students need help after school, they should go to their classroom teacher for help. If their teacher is not available, they should come to the office.

THANK YOU
The kindergarten and first grade students from Mrs. Ball, Ms. Luciano, and Mrs. DiMaggio's classes would like to extend a thank you to everyone who sent donations for our service learning project titled "Show A Little Love".  The students collected over 500 items, as well as, $200 for the pets of the homeless.  The students were overwhelmed by the response from so many people including many students and their families, teachers, Principal Isaacson, Board Member Pauline Cutter, the Mayor of San Leandro Mr. Santos, and several local businesses.  The local organization that helps pets of the homeless were extremely grateful!  Thanks again for helping us help others.

WELL DONE TO FORMER MCKINLEYITES
Well done to these former McKinley students: Beatrice Tesorero, Miguel Tesorero, Nate Scovill, Mikayla Poe, Sofya Yevgrafova, Sora Morey, Juno Morey, Rhonda Randle, Armando Munguia, Greg Maier, Ben Wallace Ailsworth, Eric Samayoa, Claudia Vergara, Stacy Li. Their participation helped to make Bancroft Middle School's production of the musical Peter Pan a fantastic show!
