PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Founded in 1917, McKinley School is the oldest elementary school in San Leandro. Our guiding vision is to make our school a joyful, stimulating place for students to learn, develop a sense of responsibility, and practice good citizenship. By building a learning community among staff where we continue to develop appropriate teaching strategies to improve instruction, students will accelerate their learning. For our historically underachieving students, students with disabilities, and English language learners, McKinley staff will personalize instruction to help close the achievement gap. These same strategies will support our gifted and talented students as well.

While we strive to improve our instructional practice in the classroom, we will also focus on the physical, social and emotional well being of our students. With this year’s emphasis on Soul Shoppe, we are confident that our safety and discipline will improve with our McKinley students. Another emphasis this year is to involve more parents and community at McKinley. Early results show us that we have had a significant increase in participation at all school functions.

We are proud at McKinley that the arts are an important part of the students’ week. All students from first grade to fifth grade are provided art classes by a professional art teacher. Vocal music is provided to all first through fifth graders weekly as well. In addition, all fifth graders are involved in instrumental music.

I am honored to be McKinley's new principal this year. I have family here, and I grew up in San Leandro. I speak Spanish and have a strong sense of community pride; I appreciate our cultural, linguistic, and ethnic diversity. McKinley has a dedicated staff, caring families, and motivated students, all who work closely together to create optimal educational experiences for all. It is my pleasure to serve your children and provide them with the very best learning possible. I know your children will join me in a resounding “GO EAGLES!”
